Every year about mid-April, groups of pelicans follow the Rock River to the northern states. Bob and I went hunting for them the other day and found just one on a sandbar/island near the south end of town. I took several pictures, but my zoom doesn't take very good shots, so these are still at some distance.
After this pelican flew off, we drove north along the river. Just outside of Byron (10 miles to the north), we finally spotted two more pelicans, but there was no place to stop and take pictures. We drove into town and did finally find them again from the other side of the river, but again no place to take pictures. Since we only found three, we think we just caught the last stragglers of the group.
