Chris Moose

Please read my Terms of Use at the bottom of this tutorial. I hate having to state them, but in this day and age, it is necessary.

I did the work for this tutorial in PSP version 9, but I am sure the technique would work in other versions as well. This is an Alpha Channel Selections tutorial, and I hope it is clear enough for anyone trying it. The canvas was saved as a psp, so it should also work in verson 8. Remember to save often.

To do this tutorial, you will need a basic knowledge of PSP and my Chris Moose Supplies.

Unzip the chris_moose_canvas_ssg.psp into a folder of your choice. I usually make a folder with the name of the tutorial and put the supplies in there for easy access. I offer the directions merely as a guide for you. Be creative and use your imagination. Included in the zip are the following psp images: xmas_stripes_ssg.psp and a small wreath. You can either place the stripes in your Patterns or just open onto your PSP work space. The wreath can be added to your tubes or also just opened onto the PSP work space to be used later. These were all made by me, so they are safe to use.

Remember to save often! You can save it as a pspimage in the folder of your choice. (This is another reason I have a folder with the name of the tutorial, so that I can also put my pspimages in it to save and "play" with later!)

There are a lot of items for this image, and many screen shots. I did pair items that could be to save on steps - such as shoes, mittens, eyes, etc. Nothing is hard, just a lot! It should be very easy for anyone to do.

Step 1. Open the chris_moose_canvas_ssg.psp in your PSP workspace, duplicate it and close the original. The colors I used are on their own layer and numbered. Feel free to use your own colors and pattern instead of mine. My tutorials are only written the way I did them - and are suggestions for you. Use your imagination - get creative! : )

Step 2. Activate the shoes layer in the Layer Palette. Go to Selections/Load-Save Selections/Load from Alpha Channel. Load the shoes selection. Fill with color # 1. Selections/Float. Effects/3D Effects/Cutout. Use the following Cutout settings: V&H: 0; Opacity: 100; Blur: 20; Shadow color: black. Deselect by going to Selections/Select none or by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the D key.

Step 3. Activate the laces layer. Load the laces. Fill with color # 4. Deselect.

Step 4. Activate the bows layer. Load the bows. Fill with color # 4. Deselect.

You might notice that the pants are not even, and after you do the next step with the cuffs, the L cuff doesn't cover the base of the bottom of the left side of the pants. After you deselect, you can use the Mover Tool to move the pants down just enough for the cuffs to cover the bottom of both pants' legs. You can also move the cuff up slightly, whichever works best for you.
